Ford used that 228 @ .050 cam lobe on the FE engine, also. There are better cams, that one is kinda "lasy" but durable. I'd go with something in the 230/236 @ .050 and at least .500 lift.

I believe the 271 hp and 306 hp ratings are probably pretty close to true. I would the think headers, better intake, and better carb on the Shelby version could gain 35 hp.
