Swarming clostridium

SpletClostridia are large, rod-shaped, gram-positive anaerobic bacteria. Naturally occurring clostridial infection in mice is rare. Epizootics of C. perfringens type D infection with high mortality have been reported in a barrier colony where heavy mortality occurred in 2- to 3-week-old suckling mice. SpletClostridium chauvoei is the causative agent of blackleg, which is an endogenous bacterial infection. Mainly cattle and other ruminants are affected. The symptoms of blackleg are very similar to those of malignant edema, an infection caused by Clostridium septicum.

Description of the Bacterial Genus - Clostridium - Hardy Diagnostics

SpletClostridia possess no one typical colony morphology. They are generally a large colony (>2mm) with irregular edges or swarming growth. Some Clostridia form small, convex, non-hemolytic colonies with a smooth edge. Other Clostridia produce several different-looking colony types, so the culture appears mixed. Splet23. apr. 2024 · Clostridium is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped, anaerobic, and spore-forming bacterium, which is found in the surrounding environments throughout the world. Splet04. dec. 2014 · The rapid movement of swarm cells at the edge of a colony is accompanied by cell growth within the colony, resulting in rapid colonization of the available area. Swarming is a process requiring high energy consumption and synthesis of numerous flagellae (Harshey 2003; Verstraeten et al., 2008 ).
